Root overtakes Cook to become England's leading Test run-scorer

In the ongoing Multan Test against Pakistan, Joe Root has made history by surpassing Alastair Cook to become England's all-time leading run-scorer in Test cricket. Root achieved this milestone by overtaking Cook's total of 12,472 runs, reaching it in 161 Tests and 291 innings.

Root, who already held the record for most Test centuries by an English player with 34, is currently batting and aiming for another century in this match.

He now joins the top five run-scorers in Test history. Sachin Tendulkar from India leads with 15,921 runs, followed by Ricky Ponting from Australia with 13,378 runs. South Africa's Jacques Kallis and India's Rahul Dravid follow closely behind.

In the match, England are responding strongly to Pakistan's first innings total of 556 runs, having already scored over 280 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Joe Root is currently batting on 86, while Harry Brook is unbeaten at 26.
