Schoolgirl raped, murdered, and dumped in Hatirjheel; 2 held

The police recovered the body of a schoolgirl from Hatirjheel in the capital. Two youths have been arrested in this incident. The arrested persons told the police that they tied the hands and feet together and killed the girl after raping her.

On Sunday (February 2), the body of a teenage girl was found. She was an eighth-grade student at a school in Dakshinkhan. According to her family, she had told her parents that she was going out for shopping.

It is learnt that the teenage girl went missing on January 16. On January 19, her father filed a general diary (GD) at the Dakshinkhan police station. Following this, a case was filed on January 27. Based on her mobile phone number, the police arrested a young man named Robin on January 30. After questioning him, another young man named Rabbi Mridha was arrested. After the two were arrested, they were brought before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court in Dhaka. The court granted permission for a two-day remand to interrogate them. The police then questioned Robin and Rabbi.

The two arrested youths admitted to the police that five of them raped the girl. When she died, her body was dumped in Hatirjheel. On the basis of the information given by them, the police recovered the body of the girl from Hatirjheel.

Robin and Rabbi Mridha gave a statement under section 164 in the court today, admitting the responsibility of killing the girl. The court ordered to send them to jail in the evening.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Uttara Division Assistant Commissioner (Dakshinkhan Zone) Md. Nasim A-Gulshan said, 'Robin met that student through Facebook. Later she was taken to a house in Mohakhali and raped and killed.

He also said that an operation is underway to arrest the other three people involved in the murder.

According to police officials, the body was packed after the girl was killed. Then on the day of the incident on January 16, the accused persons brought the dead body to the bridge in front of police plaza in Hatirjheel by rickshaw from Mohakhali. Robin threw the body from the bridge into Hatirjheel. After that, each of them went back to their homes.

Assistant Commissioner (Dakshinkhan Zone) Mohammad Nasim said, according to the information provided by the accused, Robin is a driver by profession. Rabbi Mridha does not have a specific profession.
