The Cabinet Department issued a notification appointing Sheikh Hasina as the prime minister of Bangladesh again on Wednesday. The notification signed by Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain was issued after Sheikh Hasina sent a letter to President Md Sahbuddin to form the government.
In addition to becoming the prime minister, Sheikh Hasina was also given permission to form a new cabinet.
Awami League won 222 seats in the 12th National Parliament election on January 7.
Newly elected Members of Parliament took oath in the National Parliament on Wednesday morning. After taking the oath, Sheikh Hasina was elected the Parliament Leader.
According to the announcement, the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh has given the decision to appoint Sheikh Hasina as the Prime Minister, trusted by the majority of the members of the 12th National Parliament, and has given consent to form a new cabinet under her leadership.
As soon as the new Cabinet is formed, the existing Cabinet shall be deemed to have been dissolved.
In 1996, Sheikh Hasina was elected as the Prime Minister of the country for the first time. After that, he was appointed as the Prime Minister of the country for four consecutive times from 2008 to 2024.
