‘Shikshak Batayan’ gets global recognition

Shikshak Batayan, a project of a2i (aspire to innovate) under the ICT Division and Cabinet Division, has won the UN's 'World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Award-2024', the highest recognition of the Information and Communication Technology sector in the international arena.

Shikshak Batayan (teachers.gov.bd), the largest online platform for empowering teachers through professional skill development, won the champion title in the 'Capacity Building' category of WSIS Award this year, says a press release.

The award was distributed on Thursday (May 30) at a lavish ceremony at the headquarters of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the UN's specialized agency for ICT, in Geneva, Switzerland.

Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak and a2i Joint Project Director (Joint Secretary) Molla Mizanur Rahman received the award from Director of ITU (Telecommunication Development Bureau) Dr Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava.

Besides, this year Bangladesh Computer Council's 'Secure Video Conferencing System (Boithok) won the Building Confidence and Security in Use of ICTs category; and UNICEF Bangladesh's 'Okkey, the Period Tracker App for Girls by Girls', won the award under e-Health category.


The Shikshak Batayan platform launched in 2013 as a joint initiative of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education and a2i is delivering quality educational materials to village educational institutions through the use of information technology in education.

Also, through this platform, teachers have played an important role in keeping the education system running during the Corona period.

Through this platform, teachers can create and upload and download classroom content from anywhere in the country. The Shikshak Batayan is playing an important role in creating a non-discriminatory education system and skilled teachers in ICT. The platform has audio, video, animation, images, documents, publications etc. content of various general, technical and madrasa education subjects. Teachers are teaching in multimedia classrooms using these contents. The registered members of Shikshak Batayan are more than 6.35 lakhs. The number of content is more than 8.1 lakh, which teachers are using in teaching.
