State Minister Palak to receive UN’s WSIS Award Tuesday
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak will receive the United Nations’ World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Award-2024 in the information and technology sector on Tuesday (May 28).
This year Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) has been announced as the winner in the Building Confidence and Security in Use of ICTs category for the development of Secure Video Conferencing System (BOITHOK).
The WSIS informed this through an e-mail message, says an ICT Division press release.
The state minister will receive the winner award at the forum to be held in Geneva in Switzerland on May 28 next.
To address the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the BCC developed a video conferencing platform called 'Boithok'. So far 2,500+ meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops, online classes, webinars, policy discussions, trainings, job interviews, etc. have been successfully conducted using this platform.
Congratulating the BCC on this achievement, Palak said, “Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the overall supervision of Prime Minister's Information and Communication Technology Advisor Sajeeb Wazed, the Information and Communication Technology Division is working tirelessly to build Smart Bangladesh.”
He expressed hope that this award of the United will inspire everyone to take various successful initiatives in the future.
Apart from this, a2i’s 'Shikshak Batayan' has won the WSIS Award-2024 in the capacity building category and UNICEF Bangladesh's Oky’s period tracker app for girls by girls has won in the e-health category.
