Anjana Rahman is one of the most popular actresses of Bangladesh in the seventies and eighties. Anjana is one of the few heroines in the country's film industry who was a professional dancer. Her dance scenes in the movie took the entire film industry by storm. On Friday (January 3) night, the beloved Anjana passed away. Her death has cast a shadow of grief not only in the film industry, but also among all film lovers in the country.

Anjana was born on June 27, 1965, in a cultured family in Dhaka. Before entering the film industry, Anjana was known as a dancer. Anjana danced on stage at the age of just 5. The actress had a strong interest in dancing since childhood. Because of which her parents sent her to learn dance from Indian master Baburaj Hiralal. There she learned Kathak. Anjana won the National Award for dance 3 times. She was also quite proficient in Bharatanatyam dance. She has won the International Best Dancer Award 10 times. Even though she died with the title of film actress, Anjana was one of the best artists in dance. Anjana's acting and dancing in the Bengali remake of Disco Dancer with Mithun Chakraborty proves how talented Anjana was in dancing.

In 1976, she entered the acting world with the film 'Setu' directed by Babul Chowdhury. Although her first released film was ‘Dosshu Bonhur' directed by Shamsuddin Tagor. She acted opposite the hero Sohel Rana. After that, Anjana Rahman did not have to look back.

After that, her career graph started to rise. She has acted in more than 300 films in her acting career. Notable among her Bengali films are - 'Oshikkhito', 'Jinjir', 'Ashar Pradeep', 'Ashar Alo', 'Anarkali', 'Sukhe Thako', 'Sanai', 'Bou Katha Kao', 'Abhiyaan', 'Ram Rahim Jon', 'Rupali Saikat', 'Mohana', 'Parineeta', Rajar Raja, Prashat, Phuleshwari etc. She has acted opposite almost all the first-class heroes of Dhaka cinema in her time. She has acted in 30 films with Nayak Raj Razzak. She has acted with him more. She has also acted with Indian actor Mithun Chakraborty, Pakistani actors Faisal, Nadeem, Javed Sheikh, Ismail Shah and Nepal's Shiv Shrestha and Bhuvan KC. Anjana has acted in 13 films in 9 countries and languages.

In 1981, she received the National Film Award for Best Actress for her impeccable performance in the movie Gangchil. Then in 1986, she won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in the film 'Parineeta'. In addition, the late Anjana won the Best Actress award several times in the opinion of the Bangladesh Film Journalists' Association (BACHSAS).

Just as actress Anjana's films have left a mark on the minds of the audience, the songs of her films still come back to the lips of the audience. Some notable songs are ‘Dhaka Sohor Aisa Amar Asha Furaise’, ‘Dora Kata Daag Deke Bagh Chena Jaye’, ‘Ami jemon Achi Tem Robo’, ‘Hello Hello Everybody’, etc. Listening to these songs, the audience still goes back to the golden days of our cinema.

After 1992, Anjana became irregular in films. Her last film 'Bhool' was released in 2008. After that, she also produced several films, including ‘Nepali Meye’, ‘Himmatwali’, ‘Rangin Pran Sajn’i, ‘Desh Videsh’, ‘Raja Rani Badsha’, ‘Danda Mere Thanda’, ‘Bandhu Jokhon Shatru’, ‘Sashur Bari’ and ‘Lal Sardar’.

Although she was not active in acting, she was a regular visitor to the film industry. She was elected as a member in the last film association elections. Actress Anjana Rahman also had a foothold in the political arena. She was a member of the central committee of the Bangladesh Jubo Mohila League and a member of the cultural presidium of the Awami League. The late actress lived a diverse life in acting, dancing, production, and politics.
