Vinicius Jr named FIFA Best Men's Player of the Year
Real Madrid and Brazil winger Vinicius Jr has been awarded the prestigious title of FIFA Best Men's Player of the Year at the 2024 FIFA Best Awards held in Doha. The 24-year-old forward played a pivotal role in Real Madrid's triumphant 2023-24 season, helping the club secure both the Champions League and La Liga titles. Throughout the campaign, Vinicius netted 24 goals and provided 11 assists, showcasing his immense talent and contribution to his team's success.
The FIFA Best Men's Player award, which recognizes footballing achievements from August 2023 to August 2024, is determined through a combination of public votes, votes from a journalist representing each country, and votes from the captains and managers of national teams. Each category contributed 25% to the final decision.
Vinicius Jr triumphed over Spain's Euro 2024-winning midfielder Rodri, who finished in second place. Real Madrid teammate and England international Jude Bellingham secured third place in the prestigious ranking.
In other awards, Argentina's Emiliano Martinez was named Goalkeeper of the Year after his standout performances in helping Argentina claim the Copa America. Martinez now has two best goalkeeper awards, having won similar honors at both the Ballon d'Or and FIFA Best awards.
The Puskas Award, recognizing the best men's goal of the year, was presented to Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho for his breathtaking bicycle kick in a 3-0 win over Everton in November 2023.
Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, was named Coach of the Year after leading the Spanish giants to both the Champions League and La Liga titles in the 2023-24 season.
