Why Facebook IDs and Pages are Being Disabled in Bangladesh?
Every day, individuals utilize Facebook to share their experiences, connect with friends and family, and foster relationships. Currently, more than 2 billion people worldwide utilize this Facebook service, which spans across diverse countries and cultures.
Since 2019, Facebook has surged in popularity in our country as a social media platform. Users create Facebook IDs and pages for various purposes, whether to express personal opinions or for marketing endeavors. However, there has been a recent influx of complaints regarding the inexplicable disabling of these users' Facebook IDs and pages.
Numerous individuals and organizations, including prominent fashion, cosmetics, and food brands, as well as public figures, have experienced the sudden disappearance or deactivation of their Facebook IDs and pages. This issue has raised concerns among users regarding the platform's transparency and the criteria used for disabling accounts.
Why is the Facebook ID and page disabled?
Facebook IDs and pages may be disabled for various reasons, often related to policy violations or security concerns. Meta, the company behind Facebook, has outlined specific guidelines in their Community Standards that users are expected to follow. Adhering to these guidelines generally reduces the likelihood of having accounts disabled.
The Community Standards encompass several key principles, including authenticity, security, privacy, and dignity. Meta has categorized their guidelines into six sections:
1. Violence and Criminal Activity
2. Safety
3. Offensive Content
4. Authenticity and Credibility
5. Intellectual Property
6. Requests and Solutions
Violating any of these sections can lead to the disabling of a user's ID or page. Users who find their accounts disabled are encouraged to reach out to Facebook for individual support to address the issue. By understanding and complying with Facebook's Community Standards, users can minimize the risk of having their accounts disabled.
When utilizing Facebook user IDs and pages, it's essential to be mindful of various factors, including offensive content (text, images, or videos), violent speech, and direct attacks on individuals based on race, religion, color, gender, or physical disability. Reporting such content prompts action from Facebook authorities, which may result in temporary restrictions on posting or commenting.
Additionally, avoid posting videos or images depicting sensitive and graphic content, such as rape, accidents, dead bodies, or violence. This also extends to any form of abuse, including child sexual abuse, sexual abuse, animal cruelty, hunting, killing, slaughter, or wounding. Even sharing cropped images or videos of such content can lead to immediate disabling of the Facebook ID.
What to do if the Facebook ID or page is disabled?
If your Facebook ID or Page gets disabled, Facebook will notify you via email and when you attempt to access your account through the app or web browser. They'll also indicate whether you have the option to appeal the suspension if you believe it was a mistake. Once logged in, you can follow the Community Guidelines to submit an appeal.
However, the process of regaining access can sometimes take quite a while—anywhere from six months to over a year. In some cases, your ID or page might not be reinstated at all if it wasn't properly registered. Facebook advises users to adhere to specific rules for personal accounts or pages during this process. Make sure to use the email or phone number associated with the inactive ID or page, as Facebook needs to communicate with users through these channels.
In addition to the aforementioned steps, Meta (formerly Facebook) recommends using your real name, photo, and address for business purposes when opening personal accounts and pages. To retrieve a disabled ID or page, Meta may require official identification documents such as a national identity card, birth registration, passport, or driver's license that contain your full name and address. This can pose challenges if the account wasn't registered with accurate information matching these documents.
Therefore, it's crucial to ensure that your Facebook account is registered with accurate and verifiable information to simplify the process of account recovery if it ever becomes disabled. Failure to provide the necessary documentation or discrepancies in the information provided can make it more difficult to regain access to your account.
Indeed, it's unfortunate that many business-related pages in Bangladesh are experiencing disablement. To mitigate risks and ensure security, users can maintain a regular diary where they document important information related to their Facebook IDs or pages. This includes details such as account credentials, contacts, and any relevant documentation.
For business pages, having valid documents such as trade licenses, VAT-tax documents, and other official paperwork readily available can significantly ease the process of recovering disabled IDs or pages. These documents serve as proof of legitimacy and ownership, which can help expedite the recovery process with Meta's support team. It's essential for businesses to proactively maintain accurate records and documentation to safeguard their online presence and address any unforeseen issues promptly.
