French President Emmanuel Macron has urged US President Donald Trump to stop the ongoing war in Gaza if he hopes to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Macron made the remarks in an interview with France’s BFM television from New York on Tuesday, according to Reuters.

“Only President Trump has the power to pressure Israel to halt the conflict,” Macron said. “One person can take action, and that person is the US President. While we do not supply weapons for war, the United States does.”

Earlier, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, Trump rejected calls from Western allies to support a Palestinian state. He emphasized the need for immediate cessation of hostilities in Gaza and a swift resumption of peace talks.

Commenting on Trump’s UN address, Macron said: “This morning, I heard a U.S. President declare from the UN stage, ‘I want peace, I have resolved seven conflicts, I want the Nobel Peace Prize.’ But such a prize is only possible if the conflict is stopped.”

Countries including Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan have nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his mediation in several peace agreements and ceasefires during his tenure.

White House spokesperson Anna Kelly defended Trump’s record, stating, “He has worked for peace more than anyone present at the UN. His contributions to global stability demonstrate that only President Trump has been able to achieve so much, having effectively strengthened America.”
