England wrapped up a dominant victory over Pakistan inside three days, winning the Headingley Test by an innings and 103 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

After dismissing Pakistan for just 171 in the first innings, England piled up 409 to secure a commanding 238-run lead. Pakistan then collapsed again in their second innings, bowled out for 135 in just 37.3 overs.

Mohammad Rizwan top-scored for Pakistan with 41, while captain Shan Masood made 29 and Abdullah Shafique added 15. England's pace attack did most of the damage, with Ollie Robinson, Jofra Archer and Josh Tong taking three wickets each. Gus Atkinson claimed one.

Robinson and Tong had earlier taken five wickets apiece in the first innings to dismantle Pakistan's batting. The England quicks then completed the job in the second innings, claiming all 10 wickets.

Harry Brook led England's batting with 91, while Jordan Cox scored 73, captain Joe Root made 66 and Dan Lawrence contributed 51. Archer added a valuable unbeaten 23.

The victory marks an impressive start to Root's second stint as England's Test captain.

The second Test will begin at Lord's on August 27.
