Players and staff of the England Lions cricket team have been stranded in Dubai following a sharp escalation in hostilities across the Middle East.

The situation intensified after joint strikes by Israel and the United States triggered retaliatory missile attacks by Iran, heightening regional security concerns.

Iranian missiles were reportedly aimed at US military installations in the region, while explosions were also reported near Dubai’s iconic Palm Jumeirah.

Amid the security situation, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has cancelled the second 50-over match between England Lions and Pakistan Shaheens, which was scheduled to be played in Abu Dhabi.

In a statement, the ECB said: “The safety and security of our players and staff is our highest priority. We are closely monitoring the ongoing situation in the Middle East in consultation with security experts and the relevant government authorities, and we will continue to follow their guidance.”

A total of 25 players and support staff are currently in Dubai, including head coach Andrew Flintoff and white-ball star Jonny Bairstow.
