England pacer Brydon Carse under investigation after Derby nightclub incident

England fast bowler Brydon Carse is under investigation by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) following an incident at a nightclub in Derby, raising fresh questions over his availability for the ongoing Test series against Pakistan.

The incident reportedly took place late Saturday (August 22) after Carse had represented Durham in their County Championship match against Derbyshire.

A video circulating on social media on Sunday showed the 31-year-old pacer handcuffed with his hands behind his back as several police officers stood around him. England teammate Matthew Potts and former captain Ben Stokes were also reportedly present.

The ECB confirmed it was aware of the incident and had launched an investigation.

"The ECB is aware of an incident that took place in Derby on Saturday evening, which is currently being investigated," the governing body said in a statement, adding that further information could be provided as the investigation progresses.

Carse and Potts had both played in Durham's 338-run victory over Derbyshire earlier on Saturday. Carse took part in the match before the reported nightclub incident later that night.

The fast bowler has been included in England's squad for the first two Tests of the three-match series against Pakistan. He did not feature in the first Test at Leeds, where England secured a dominant innings-and-103-run victory.

The second Test is scheduled to begin at Lord's on Thursday, but the ongoing investigation has cast uncertainty over Carse's availability.

Carse has played 14 Tests for England and was one of the team's leading performers during the 2025-26 Ashes in Australia, taking 22 wickets in five matches despite England's 4-1 series defeat.

The latest incident comes amid renewed scrutiny of England players' conduct during overseas and domestic tours. The ECB introduced curfew measures for players in January following a series of off-field incidents, including a dispute involving white-ball captain Harry Brook at a nightclub in Wellington and a separate London nightclub incident that resulted in Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson missing a Test against New Zealand.
