England have taken a 1-0 lead against Croatia in their Group L World Cup opener in Dallas, with captain Harry Kane scoring from the penalty spot in the ninth minute.

The penalty was awarded after Croatia captain Luka Modric fouled Noni Madueke inside the box. The referee immediately pointed to the spot.

Kane stepped up and calmly sent the ball into the net, giving England the perfect start to their World Cup campaign.

Croatia increased their attacking intensity after conceding and tried to control the midfield, creating a few chances, but England's defence held firm. The goalkeeper's alert presence also kept Croatia from finding an equaliser.

England continued to play attacking football even after taking the lead, with Kane, Madueke and their teammates creating further opportunities.

England are aiming to start their World Cup campaign with a win, and Kane's early goal has given the fans and the team a strong foundation for the match.
