England whitewashes Pakistan in Test series

Pakistan has faced extreme failure in the Test series on the soil of England. Babar Azam’s team has been whitewashed by losing 3-0 to the hosts in the three-match series. Although they won the practice match at the beginning of the tour, Pakistan could not build resistance in front of England in the main series.

Pakistan faced a big-margin defeat in the first Test of the series itself in Leeds. England won by an innings and 103 runs. Pakistan’s totals in the two innings of the match were 171 and 135 runs respectively.

Pakistan took the field for the second Test at Lord’s with the expectation of bouncing back in the series. But there also they had to lose by a big margin due to batting failure. After being all out for 110 runs in the first innings Pakistan scored 194 runs in the second innings. As a result England sealed the series by taking a 194-run victory.

After that the same picture was seen in the last Test of the series at Edgbaston in Birmingham as well. Winning the toss and electing to bat Pakistan came under pressure by losing seven wickets for only 84 runs. Finally their first innings stopped at 133 runs.

In reply England showed excellent solidity with the bat. The hosts built a big total of 453 runs with half-centuries from five batters. As a result they got a lead of 320 runs in the first innings. Although Pakistan somewhat bounced back in the second innings and scored 449 runs with the help of four half-centuries, the target for victory in front of England stood at only 130 runs.

On the fourth day of the Edgbaston Test on Saturday England sealed the victory by losing only two wickets while chasing that easy target. As a result the hosts whitewashed Pakistan by a 3-0 margin in the three-match series.
