Ex-Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani killed in Air India crash
Gujarat's former chief minister, Vijay Rupani, has been killed in the Air India plane crash, reports BBC.
Rupani, 68, served as the chief minister of the western Indian state in 2016-21. He was elected from BJP.
Union Minister and Gujarat BJP president CR Patil said "Vijay Rupani was "among victims" in this incident.
"Our leader and former Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani, was going (to London) to meet his family. He is also a victim in this incident. May his soul rest in peace. This is a big loss for the BJP," said Mr Patil.
The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals.
