Miscreants have raped and murdered a housewife, 30, after breaking into her home during Sehri hours in Ukhia, Cox's Bazar. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 3, in the Purba Morichya area of Haldia Palong union. Later around 11:00 am, Ukhia police recovered the body. The victim's husband is an expatriate worker in Malaysia.

Confirming the matter, Ukhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nur Ahmed told Dhaka Post that preliminary evidence suggests rape or attempted rape. The victim bore injury marks on her body, and it is suspected the incident occurred due to previous enmity. Police are working to unravel the mystery behind the incident.

According to the victim's family and local sources, miscreants barged into the house during Sehri and attacked Lala Begum. Hearing her screams, family members and locals rushed to the spot and found her dead.

The victim's husband's elder brother said there had been a long-standing dispute with a particular party over land. He believes the incident was pre-planned.

Police said the body will be sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy before being handed over to the family. Legal action is underway.
