Explosion in Narayanganj: 3 family members die
All three members of the same family who suffered burn injuries in an explosion in Narayanganj's Bandar upazila have passed away. Most recently, the head of the family, Maidul Islam, 24, died while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Tuesday morning. Prior to this, his eight-year-old son Maruf passed away on Saturday, followed by his wife Beauty Akter, 22, on Monday.
Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon and assistant professor at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed Maidul's death on Tuesday morning. He stated that besides his airway being burnt, 85 percent of Maidul's body was scorched in the explosion. His wife Beauty had suffered 90 percent burns, and their son Maruf had 80 percent burns. Both of them had earlier succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
On Friday morning around 7:15am, an explosion occurred in a tin-shed house in Bandar. Mason Maidul Islam, his wife Beauty Akter, and their son Maruf sustained burn injuries in the incident. They were subsequently rescued and admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Maidul's brother-in-law, Md. Rony, stated that they live in adjacent rented houses in Bandar. On the morning of the incident, the explosion occurred right after Maidul lit a cigarette inside the room. They suspect that the explosion originated from gas accumulated inside the room.
Rony shared that Beauty's home is in Omarpur village of Natore's Lalpur upazila, while Maidul is from Borobadkaiya village in the same upazila. Maidul worked as a mason, and their son Maruf was a second-grade student at a local primary school. The loss of three family members within a span of a few days has cast a pall of deep grief among their relatives.
