Fans form human chain demanding quick trial over Salman Shah’s murder
Fans of the late legendary Bangladeshi film actor Salman Shah have formed a human chain demanding a swift trial over his murder.
On Saturday, November 1, during a human chain held in front of the National Press Club under the banner Justice for Salman Shah, the fans voiced their demand. They chanted slogans such as “My brother is in the grave, why are the killers free?” and “We want justice for Salman Shah’s murder.”
The fans alleged that ten days have passed since the murder case was filed, yet there has been no visible progress in the investigation. They claimed that the main accused—Salman’s former wife Samira Haque and actor Don—had long been moving around openly but are now absconding. “If Salman Shah truly committed suicide, why did they flee?” they asked.
The fans also said that Salman Shah had survived at least three attacks during his lifetime. He had even held a press conference at the Press Club expressing concerns for his safety. “A successful and popular man cannot take his own life; this was undoubtedly a planned murder,” they asserted. They further alleged that “it was the state’s responsibility to ensure his safety, but now there is an attempt to portray the murder as suicide.”
Issuing a warning, the fans said that unless the accused are arrested and the trial begins soon, a countrywide protest programme will be announced. They also vowed to go on a hunger strike if necessary.
Sohan, a member of the Salman Shah Fan Club, said, “Our Alamgir Kumkum Mama has said that, if necessary, this case will be taken to an international court—even to the United States. Salman Shah’s soul will not rest until the killers are brought to justice.”
Salman Shah’s younger brother, Shahraan Chowdhury, also addressed the human chain virtually. He said, “We have full faith in our judiciary. Even after three decades of delay, we remain hopeful that this time we will see justice for Salman Shah’s murder. I urge that the accused be arrested and presented before the court without delay.”
It is worth mentioning that on September 6, 1996, the legendary Bangladeshi film actor Salman Shah died under mysterious circumstances. Nearly three decades later, justice for his death has yet to be served. Recently, a murder case has been filed against eleven individuals, including his former wife Samira Haque and actor Don. New evidence and witness accounts have reportedly emerged, which investigators believe could open a new dimension to the case.
Once again, the entire nation is abuzz over the death of Salman Shah. Fans have one united demand—that their beloved actor’s mother may live to see justice served for her son’s killing.
