Faruque was removed to restore discipline: Sports adviser
Faruque Ahmed has been removed from the post of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president for restoring discipline in the cricket board and because of the long-term mismanagement in the BPL, said Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan.
He claimed: "This decision has been taken in accordance with the ICC guidelines. Therefore, there is no fear of a ban."
While distributing the awards of the national handball competition on Saturday (May 31), Asif Mahmud said: "This is not actually a punishment or anything else. We have not seen what we expected after the new leadership came in nine months. After this government came, Bangladesh cricket team won a historic Test series against Pakistan. Since then, we have been seeing a gradual decline. Very sadly, the new leadership that came in could not show performance. I am not a sports person. I spoke to ten people and the one whom I thought could manage well was nominated as the president by the other directors. But that leadership has shown failure. We have to judge it by performance. That performance is not as expected."
Regarding the BPL, the sports adviser said: "We have seen in the report of the BPL fact-finding committee that there are many irregularities and negligence of duty, and the situation that arose in the BPL has been largely attributed to Faruwue Ahmed.
He said: "Eight of the nine directors of the BCB have sent a no-confidence motion against the president to the NSC. The associates of fascism in the BCB fled after August 5. None of the remaining ones were comfortable working with him (Faruque). That is why we were seeing the gradual deterioration of Bangladesh cricket."
"We had to come to a conclusion by combining the cricket situation and the report of the BPL fact-finding committee," said Asif Mahmud.
