'Fast and Furious' celebrates 25 years at Cannes
The 25th anniversary of the popular action franchise 'The Fast and the Furious' was celebrated at the Cannes Film Festival with a special midnight screening at the Grand Lumière Theatre on Wednesday, May 13.
Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster walked the red carpet together for the special screening held under the festival's 'Special Screening' section, where the 2001 film was honoured as a contemporary classic.
Producer Neal H. Moritz was also in attendance. Addressing the audience, Vin Diesel said the audience's enduring passion for the film still amazes him after more than two decades.
The most emotional moment of the event came when Meadow Walker, daughter of the late Paul Walker, appeared on stage. Vin Diesel became visibly emotional in her presence, a moment that was widely covered by international media.
The original film, centred around Los Angeles street racing culture, has since grown into one of the world's most successful franchises. The series has grossed over $7 billion worldwide, including spin-offs.
Meanwhile, the 79th Cannes Film Festival began on May 12 and will continue until May 23. The winner of the prestigious Palme d'Or will be announced at the closing ceremony.
