Fasting prohibited for PIA pilot-crew

Even though fasting is a fundamental ritual in Islam, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has ordered its pilots and cabin crew not to fast while on duty.

According to a report published by Pakistani newspaper Express Tribune, PIA pilots and cabin crew members have been instructed to abstain from fasting during duty during the month of Ramadan. The directive came from PIA's flight safety department manager. He sent a notification to all cabin crew members of the airline.

According to the notification, it is possible to fast while traveling by flight. But it can be risky. Although fasting is a respected act of worship in Islam, it disrupts normal routines and can cause physiological changes such as hypoglycemia and dehydration, which can affect attention, decision-making, and reflexes (actions performed without conscious thought).
