Fazlul Haque takes charge as FBCCI administrator

Md Fazlul Haque, former president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), has officially taken charge as the administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the country's apex trade body. He assumed the role on Sunday (August 2).

According to a press release issued the same day, he joined as FBCCI administrator in accordance with the commerce ministry's office order of July 26.

Earlier, on July 26, the Commerce Ministry's Trade Organisation-1 Branch issued an office order appointing Md Fazlul Haque as FBCCI administrator under Section 17 of the Trade Organisation Act, 2022. The government stated that he was given the responsibility to maintain continuity of the organisation's activities and serve the interests of the country's industry and commerce.

Upon taking charge, he is required to hold a fair and neutral election within 120 days, in accordance with the Trade Organisation Act-2022, Trade Organisation Rules-2025, Companies Act-1994 and FBCCI's memorandum and articles of association. After the election, he must hand over responsibilities to the elected committee and inform the Commerce Ministry.

Prior to this, former Commerce Ministry Additional Secretary Md Abdur Rahim Khan had been serving as FBCCI administrator. He was relieved of his duties on June 27.

Md Fazlul Haque is a well-known entrepreneur in the country's readymade garment sector. He is a former president of BKMEA and managing director of Plumy Fashions Limited, an eco-friendly garment manufacturer. For a long time, he has been actively involved in the RMG sector, export trade, industrial policy and various trade-related issues.
