FDC to screen Salman Shah films marking 30th death anniv

The Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) will host a three-day film screening programme to commemorate the 30th death anniversary of Dhallywood icon Salman Shah.

Titled ‘In Memory of Salman Shah’, the programme will run from September 6 to 8 at BFDC’s VIP Projection Hall, with one of the late actor’s films screened at 4pm each day.

The screenings will be open to the public free of charge.

Salman Shah, one of the most celebrated stars in Bangladeshi cinema, died on September 6, 1996, at the age of 24. Despite a career spanning just four years, he became a defining figure of Dhallywood and continues to command a strong following among audiences across generations.

He acted in 27 films during his career, making his big-screen debut in 1993 with Sohanur Rahman Sohan’s ‘Keyamat Theke Keyamat’, opposite Moushumi. The film was a major success and established Salman Shah as a leading star.

Shabnur was his co-star in 13 of his 27 films. Among his other notable movies are ‘Tumi Amar’, ‘Antore Antore’, ‘Sujon Sokhi’, ‘Bikkhov’, ‘Sneho’, ‘Swapner Thikana’ and ‘Tomake Chai’.

Born on September 19, 1971, in Sylhet, Salman Shah received music training at Chhayanaut during his childhood. He began his career in the entertainment industry as a model for television commercials before moving to cinema.

His enduring popularity has been shaped not only by his acting but also by his distinctive fashion and the continuing public interest in the circumstances surrounding his death. His body was recovered from his residence in Dhaka’s Eskaton on September 6, 1996.

The circumstances of his death have recently returned to the spotlight following the arrest of his friend and fellow actor Don, who has been accused in the murder case. The latest development has renewed public interest in the long-running mystery surrounding Salman Shah’s death.
