Fear, anxiety persist among people regarding elections: Debapriya

Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, honorary fellow at the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), has expressed concern over public apprehension regarding the upcoming national elections.

Speaking at a pre-election regional consultation in Khulna organised by the Citizens’ Platform on Thursday (November 20), he urged the government to ensure robust management by the administration and the Election Commission to restore public confidence, warning that credible, participatory elections would be impossible otherwise.

Dr. Bhattacharya also emphasised the need for public discussion to address citizens’ doubts and noted that politicians have realised the importance of listening to the people to avoid future unrest.

The meeting also explored ideas for drafting a citizen-focused electoral manifesto.
