Manchester City midfielder Enzo Fernandez has hailed Erling Haaland as a “beast” after the Norwegian striker scored twice to fire City to victory over Porto in their Champions League opener.

Haaland opened the scoring in the 47th minute, heading home a cross from Fernandez before doubling his tally with a composed right-footed finish in the first minute of stoppage time.

Impressed by Haaland’s appetite for goals and clinical finishing, Fernandez said he constantly looks for the striker on the pitch to create more chances for him.

“Erling Haaland is a beast,” Fernandez said. “That’s why I look for him every time I’m on the pitch, so I can give him more assists. He is not only an incredible player but also a great person. He welcomed me and has been helping me.”

The performance underlined the early understanding between the two players, with Fernandez directly involved in Haaland’s opening goal in their first Champions League appearance together.

Fernandez, who joined City from Chelsea this season, also credited former Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca for helping make the move possible. The midfielder said he remains grateful for Maresca’s support and is determined to repay the trust placed in him by giving his best in every training session and match.
