FIFA has fined the Israel Football Association (IFA) following a series of complaints filed by the Palestine Football Federation, citing allegations of “serious and systematic” discrimination and violations of fair play regulations.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee imposed a fine of approximately 150,000 Swiss francs on IFA.

The charges include discriminatory behaviour, unfair treatment, and breaches of the organization’s governance rules.

The Palestine Football Federation had long raised concerns over teams from the West Bank being denied proper participation in Israel’s national league, prompting formal complaints to FIFA.

However, the organisation noted that the legal status of the West Bank remains unresolved under international law, limiting the scope for harsher sanctions.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino emphasised that while the governing body cannot resolve political conflicts, football can serve as a platform to promote dialogue, respect, and peace. Part of the fine is required to fund initiatives addressing discrimination through reforms, monitoring, and educational programmes over the course of a season.

FIFA officials stressed that football should function not only as a sport but also as a medium to foster mutual respect and peaceful engagement among communities.
