The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is set to stage unprecedented, multi-city opening ceremonies across three host nations for the 2026 World Cup, marking the first time the tournament will feature 48 teams.

The tournament, co-hosted by Mexico, United States and Canada, will open with separate high-profile ceremonies in each country featuring global music stars.

The first ceremony will take place on June 11 at the Estadio Azteca, ahead of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa. Prominent nternational artists such as J Balvin, Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Lila Downs, Tyla and Los Ángeles Azules will perform in those events.

On June 12, Canada will host its opening ceremony in Toronto before the match between Bosnia and Herzegovina and their opponent. The lineup includes Alanis Morissette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, Jessie Reyez, Nora Fatehi and other international performers, showcasing Canada’s cultural diversity.

The same day, the United States will hold its opening ceremony in Los Angeles ahead of its match against Paraguay. The event will feature global pop stars including Katy Perry, Future, BLACKPINK’s Lisa, Anitta, Rema and Tyla, with more artists expected to be announced.

FIFA said the three-venue format is designed to reflect the scale of the expanded World Cup and engage fans across North America, with organisers encouraging early stadium attendance as part of the entertainment-driven opening celebrations.
