FIFA president left in awkward situation as Trump reluctant to leave stage

As Spain's players prepared to celebrate their FIFA World Cup triumph, an unexpected moment unfolded during the trophy presentation ceremony. Even after handing over the trophy, U.S. President Donald Trump appeared reluctant to leave the stage, sparking widespread discussion and criticism across social media.

Trump watched the final from the VIP box alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump. When he appeared on the stadium's giant screen, sections of the crowd responded with boos and jeers. Unfazed, Trump continued chatting with Infantino. At one point, he was also handed the World Cup trophy, which he examined briefly.

Following the match, Trump joined Infantino on the presentation stage, where the two presented medals to players from both finalists. Trump then handed the World Cup trophy to Spain captain Rodri.

The controversy began immediately afterward. As Spain's players prepared for their traditional trophy celebration, Trump remained on the stage instead of stepping aside. Several FIFA officials reportedly gestured for him to move so the players could celebrate freely. Although he shifted slightly, he did not leave the stage.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino also appeared to encourage Trump to step away, but the U.S. president ultimately stayed alongside the players and took part in the celebration as they lifted the trophy.

This is not the first time Trump has drawn attention during a trophy presentation. He also remained on stage during Chelsea's FIFA Club World Cup title celebration, when Chelsea captain Reece James was seen signaling for him to step aside. However, no Spanish player was seen making a similar gesture during Sunday's celebration.
