FIFA President Gianni Infantino has paid tribute to Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team, praising their resilience, consistency and inspiring performances throughout the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In a message shared on Instagram following the tournament, Infantino said Argentina produced remarkable comebacks and captivating football, creating unforgettable moments for millions of fans around the world.

He described Argentina's second consecutive appearance in the World Cup final—after lifting the trophy in 2022—as further proof of the team's sustained excellence on the global stage.

Infantino also thanked Messi and his teammates for their commitment, passion and fighting spirit, saying they helped make the tournament even more memorable.

Despite facing criticism and controversy after the World Cup, the FIFA chief avoided addressing those issues, instead highlighting Argentina's positive contribution and commending the team's determination and consistency throughout the competition.

Infantino also issued separate messages for all four semifinalists. Congratulating new world champions Spain, he said their triumph marked a historic return to the top of world football, adding another glorious chapter to the country's football legacy after its 2010 title. He urged the Spanish team, supporters and the nation to celebrate the achievement.
