The 2024–26 executive committee of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association has completed its tenure without an effectively active general secretary, bringing an end to a term marked by prolonged controversy and inactivity surrounding the post.

Over the past few years, the position of general secretary remained at the center of disputes involving Zayed Khan, Nipun Akter, and Monowar Hossain Dipjol. Despite the rivalry, the role remained largely inactive throughout the tenure.

Incumbent General Secretary Monowar Hossain Dipjol was rarely seen at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) during his term and was absent from key association events. The situation became more complicated after a writ petition filed by defeated candidate Nipun Akter, seeking to bar Dipjol from assuming office, triggering legal disputes and public exchanges of criticism between the two rivals.

Following the political changes in July 2024, both Dipjol and Nipun gradually withdrew from the public eye. At the same time, President Misha Sawdagor spent most of his time abroad, creating a noticeable leadership vacuum within the committee.

However, insiders claim that the association’s activities did not come to a complete halt. Executive members, including Rumana Islam Mukti and Sony Rahman, continued operations by sharing responsibilities.

Candidates also said they are preparing to announce their election manifestos and full panels within the next month.
