Film festival at Dhaka's largest theatre Modhumita, 13 movies to be screened

Dhaka South City Corporation is organising a week-long special film festival titled "Hridoye Dhaka 416" at Modhumita Cinema Hall in the capital's Motijheel, marking 416 years of Dhaka city, in which 13 Bangla films will be screened.

Abdus Salam, Bir Muktijoddha and administrator of the city corporation, presented the details of the festival at a press conference held at Modhumita Cinema Hall on Wednesday. The festival is set to begin on August 22.

Zahir Uddin Swapan, Information and Broadcasting Minister, will inaugurate the festival, while Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam, State Minister for Culture, and Hamidur Rahman, member of parliament for Dhaka-7, will be present as special guests.

On the opening day (August 22) Bangladesh's first full-length talkie film "Mukh O Mukhosh" will be screened at 6pm. The next day (August 23) "Nawab Sirajuddaula" will be shown at 3pm and "13 Number Fekuostagar Lane" at 6pm.

On August 24, "Jibon Theke Neya" will be screened at 3pm and "Nantu Ghotok" at 6pm. On August 25, "Oshikkhito" will be shown at 3pm and "Rangbaaz" at 6pm.

On the fifth day of the festival (August 26) "Sobuj Sathi" will be screened at 3pm and "Nacher Putul" at 6pm. On August 27, "Durdesh" will be shown at 3pm and "Dohon" at 6pm, and on the final day, August 28, "Dost Dushman" will be screened at 3pm and "Bodhu Bidaay" at 6pm.

Along with the film screening on the closing day, 58 artistes, directors, writers, musicians, music directors, lyricists and cinematographers from the film and cultural arena will be given special honours.

Aktar Unnesa Shiuli, regional executive officer of Zone-2 of Dhaka South City Corporation, is the convener of the committee formed to implement the festival, while actress Dilara Zaman, producer Abdul Aziz, actor Shiba Sanu and journalist Ahmed Tepantar are members of the committee.
