Fire at South Korean car factory, 11 dead

At least 11 people have died in a massive fire at a South Korean auto parts factory, with many more injured and some still missing.

Rescue workers searched for missing people in the rubble of a factory in the central city of Daejeon on Saturday (March 21). Firefighters were initially unable to enter due to fears of a collapse. AFP reports.

Yonhap news agency reported that the factory was hampered by sodium, which was stored in the factory. About 170 workers were present at the time of the fire.

An official from the Fire and Disaster Management Department of the Ministry of the Interior said that 11 people had died in the incident. At least 25 were seriously injured, and the total number of injured was 34. In addition, three people are still missing.

The exact cause of the fire is not yet known. However, a witness reported hearing an explosion.
