Fire in Mexico's Hermosillo kills 23
At least 23 people, including several children, were killed in a fire at a discount store in Hermosillo, Mexico.
The incident took place on Saturday (November 1), on the country’s Day of the Dead celebrations.
Many others were injured in this blaze.
Preliminary reports suggest most deaths were caused by smoke inhalation.
Following the incident, Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño has ordered a full investigation, while Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo expressed condolences and directed support for rescue efforts.
Forty Red Cross personnel and 10 ambulances assisted in evacuating the injured to hospitals.
Several local media reported that the fire is under control, and authorities are examining whether it was caused by a short circuit or an explosion.
