First-ever Women’s BPL begins
The country’s first-ever Women’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is set to begin, marking a new chapter in Bangladesh’s cricket history. Following the success of the men’s BPL, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken the final decision to launch a franchise-based tournament featuring women cricketers.
The tournament will officially kick off on April 4 with a grand opening at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura.
According to BCB sources, the inaugural edition of the T20-format tournament will feature three teams in the initial stage. Alongside local stars, each squad is also expected to include several overseas cricketers.
Although the names of the franchises have not yet been finalized, the board has already released the preliminary schedule. Tickets will be available for spectators to watch the matches from the stands, though ticket prices have not yet been announced.
As per the schedule, the first three matches will be played on April 4, 5, and 6 at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogura. The next three matches are scheduled for April 9, 10, and 11 at the MA Aziz Stadium in Chattogram.
The top two teams in the points table across the two venues will advance to the final, which will be held on April 14 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.
