Five Bangladeshi films in contention for Oscar submission

Five Bangladeshi films have been submitted for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.

The Bangladesh Oscar Committee will select one of the entries to officially represent the country at the prestigious event.

The submitted titles are Saba, Barir Naam Shahana, Nakshi Kanthar Jamin, Priyo Maloti, and Moyna. Among them, Barir Naam Shahana is releasing in Bangladesh today, while Saba is scheduled to premiere on September 26. The other three films have already been released.

Zahirul Islam, president of the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies and chair of the selection committee, confirmed that the panel has begun reviewing the entries.

The final selection is expected to be announced by September 26, ahead of the Academy’s official submission deadline of September 31.

The Academy will announce the shortlist for the International Feature Film category on December 16. Final nominations will follow, leading up to the 98th Academy Awards ceremony, scheduled for March 15, 2025, in Los Angeles.
