At least five people were killed after a passenger bus collided head-on with an ambulance on the Dhaka-Barishal Highway in Faridpur’s Nagarkanda upazila on Sunday morning (May 24).

The deadly crash took place around 10:30 a.m. at Shankarpasha Bus Stand in Dangi Union under Nagarkanda. All the victims were travelling in the ambulance, according to highway police and local sources.

Officials said a passenger-carrying BRTC bus heading from Bhanga to Faridpur slammed into the opposite-bound ambulance, leaving the emergency vehicle completely mangled on impact.

Five passengers inside the ambulance died at the scene, authorities confirmed. Their identities could not be immediately established.

“We rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information about the accident,” said Md Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station. “Fire Service personnel and highway police jointly carried out the rescue operation and recovered the bodies.”

Emergency responders from Nagarkanda Fire Service and highway police conducted the recovery efforts, while traffic movement on the busy highway was temporarily disrupted following the collision.

Police said further details, including the identities of the deceased and the cause of the accident, are being investigated.
