The flood situation has deteriorated in the districts of Lakshmipur, Noakhali, and Chandpur due to continuous rainfall since last Tuesday night. Over 29 lakh people in these areas are facing severe hardships due to waterlogging. The situation has led to shortages of food and fresh water.

Amid the ongoing floods, the situation in Lakshmipur has worsened with continued rain through Wednesday morning. Locals report that several unions, including Mandari, Dattapara, Dighli, and Bangakha, are experiencing severe conditions. Consequently, around 80 percent of the roads in these unions are submerged.

In this regard, Lakshmipur District Commissioner Suraiya Jahan said, "Currently, 723,000 people are trapped in water within the district. So far, 28,400 individuals have sought refuge in shelter centers."

She also said, "The government has allocated 500 metric tons of rice and 1 lakh taka in cash for residents of the flood-affected areas. Additionally, 500,000 taka has been set aside for child food and another 500,000 taka for cattle feed. However, this assistance is insufficient. We have requested an additional 1,500 metric tons of rice and 30 lakh taka in cash from the relevant ministry."

The situation in Noakhali remains dire due to continuous rain. Approximately 2.5 million people across 87 unions in 8 upazilas of the district are experiencing severe waterlogging. In response, 216,000 individuals have sought refuge in 1,169 shelter centers.

According to district administration sources, the government has distributed 45 lakh taka in cash, 882 tons of rice, 1,000 packets of dry food, 500,000 taka for baby food, and 500,000 taka for animal fodder to those affected by the flooding.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in Shahrasti and Hajiganj upazilas of Chandpur district has worsened due to overnight rain. However, the situation in Faridganj has slightly improved as water levels have decreased. Currently, 150,000 people are trapped in water across three upazilas in the district.
