Former cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin took oath as a minister in the Telangana state government of India. Governor Jishnu Deb Verma administered the oath to him at the Rajyabhavan on Friday. The Congress-ruled Telangana state government can have a maximum of 18 ministers. In that case, with Azharuddin becoming a minister, the number of ministers in the Telangana state government will be 16. Azhar said: "I am happy. I thank the top leadership of the party, the common people and the supporters. Whatever responsibility is given to me, I will work honestly for the development of the oppressed people."

ভারতের তেলেঙ্গানা রাজ্য সরকারে মন্ত্রী হিসেবে শপথ নিলেন দেশটির সাবেক ক্রিকেটার মোহাম্মদ আজহারউদ্দিন। শুক্রবার রাজভবনে তাঁকে শপথ বাক্য পাঠ করান রাজ্যপাল জিষ্ণু দেব ভার্মা। কংগ্রেস শাসিত তেলেঙ্গানা রাজ্য সরকারে সর্বোচ্চ ১৮ জন মন্ত্রী থাকতে পারবেন। সেক্ষেত্রে আজহারউদ্দিন মন্ত্রী হওয়ায় তেলেঙ্গানা রাজ্য সরকারের মন্ত্রীর সংখ্যা হলো ১৬ জন। আজহার বলেন, ‘আমি খুশি। দলের শীর্ষ নেতৃত্ব, সাধারণ মানুষ ও সমর্থকদের ধন্যবাদ জানাই। আমাকে যেই দায়িত্বই দেওয়া হোক না কেন, নিপীড়িত মানুষের উন্নয়নের জন্য সততার সাথে কাজ করব।’
