Shahina Shikder Banasree, a noted Dhallywood actress of the 1990s, has passed away. She died in her sleep early Tuesday while undergoing treatment at the Shibchar Upazila Health Complex in Madaripur. She was 51.

Born on August 23, 1974, in Shikderkandi village under Madbarer Char Union of Shibchar, Banasree made her film debut in 1994 with Sohrab-Rustam, starring opposite Ilias Kanchan. The film was a commercial success, and her performance was widely appreciated.

Over the next several years, she appeared in more than a dozen films, including Maha Bhumikompo, and worked with prominent actors like Manna, Amin Khan and Rubel. Despite her on-screen popularity, Banasree lived a life marked by personal struggle and poverty.

In her later years, she returned to her hometown and lived in a government-provided home under the Ashrayan Project. She resided there with her only son, Mehedi Hasan Romeo.

Banasree’s death marks the end of a career that once shone brightly in Dhallywood, yet was shadowed by hardship in her final years.
