Former Nigeria forward Michael Eneramo dies after collapsing during match
Former Nigeria international striker Michael Eneramo has died after collapsing on the field during a match.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Eneramo, 40, reportedly lost consciousness during a friendly match in Ungwan Yelwa of Kaduna, on Friday (April 24), shortly after the start of the second half.
In a statement, the NFF said the former forward “likely suffered cardiac arrest” during play.
The federation’s general secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, described the incident as “deeply tragic” and said the organisation was “speechless” over his sudden passing.
Eneramo made his international debut for Nigeria in a friendly against Jamaica in February 2009 and went on to score his first international goal three months later against the Republic of Ireland. He earned 10 caps for the national team during his career.
