Four killed in helicopter crash in Canada

Four people were killed when a passenger helicopter crashed in Quebec, Canada, on Saturday afternoon, (September 26).

The crash occurred around 2:30pm near Rang des Écossais Road in Saint-Brigitte-d’Iberville, about 50 kilometres from Montreal and near Highway 10.

The helicopter lost control and crashed beside the road before catching fire.

Shortly after the incident, emergency crews rushed to the scene and brought the fire under control, but all four people aboard died at the site, according to Quebec provincial police.

Police Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau said preliminary information indicated that the helicopter was privately owned.

The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed and could take several days to establish, he said.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada and Quebec’s Major Crimes Unit have launched a joint investigation into the crash. Investigators and technical specialists are examining the wreckage and collecting evidence to determine what caused the accident.
