Fraud case filed over failure to refund tickets for Atif Aslam concert

A complaint case has been filed against five individuals and organisations on charges of fraud for failing to refund ticket money after the cancellation of a concert by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam.
On Monday, lawyer Ahsan Habib Bhuiyan filed the complaint with the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain. The court recorded the complainant’s statement and ordered the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police to submit an investigation report within 15 working days.
The complainant said the court has taken cognisance of the case and issued the order. The accused include Cholghuri Limited as an organisation. The individual accused are Cholghuri Limited chairman Promi Islam and managing director Asif Iqbal, Main Stage proprietor Kazi Rafsan, and Marvel founder Briti Sabrina Khan.
According to the complaint, advertisements for the Atif Aslam concert scheduled for December 13 were promoted through a Facebook page named Main Stage Inc, and tickets of various categories were sold. The complainant bought five tickets on November 19 and paid a total of Tk 28,844. However, on December 12, the accused announced on Facebook that the concert had been postponed due to failure to obtain government permission.
The complaint names six witnesses, who also purchased tickets of different prices. Allegations of criminal breach of trust and fraud have been made.
The concert was scheduled to be held on December 13 at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Exhibition Centre in Purbachal. Earlier, in a Facebook post on December 11, Atif Aslam said they would not perform in Dhaka on the scheduled date due to the lack of necessary local permissions, security clearance and logistical preparations.
