French-Moroccan actress Nadia Fares has died at the age of 57 after suffering a cardiac arrest on April 17.

Best known for her role in the international crime thriller 'The Crimson Rivers', Fares was found unconscious at a private sports complex swimming pool in Paris. She was rushed to hospital and placed in an induced coma, but died despite medical efforts.

Her family confirmed her death in a statement, with her two daughters Célia and Shana paying tribute, saying: “France has lost a great artist, and we have lost our mother.”

Born on December 20, 1968, in Marrakesh, Morocco, Fares spent her childhood in Nice, France, before moving to Paris to pursue acting. She made her film debut in 1992, but rose to international fame in 2000 with 'The Crimson Rivers'.

She later worked in Hollywood, appearing in the 2007 action film 'War' as Agent Zed Kinler and in 'Storm Warning' the same year, further expanding her international profile.

Fares took a break from acting after marrying Los Angeles-based producer Steve Chasman in 2009, later returning to the screen in 2016 with the series 'Marseille'. She moved back to France in 2022.

French media outlet 'Le Figaro' reported that an investigation has been launched into her death, although initial findings have not indicated any criminal involvement.
