Fresh strike hits US diplomatic compound in Baghdad
Another attack has targeted the US embassy compound in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, according to security officials. The attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, March 18.
Two security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AP that the attack was launched targeting the embassy around dawn. However, immediate details about the nature of the attack or the extent of damage were not available.
Officials further stated that the embassy's C-RAM (Counter Rocket, Artillery and Mortar) defence system was unable to intercept the attack. This system is typically used to destroy incoming rockets or mortars targeting the facility.
No official statement has yet been issued by the US State Department regarding this incident.
It is noteworthy that against the backdrop of ongoing tensions between Iran and Israel, US installations in Iraq frequently remain at risk of attack. In the past, there have been multiple instances of attacks targeting these facilities, particularly by Iran-backed militias.
