Full report of the National Consensus Commission published
The interim government has published the full report of the National Consensus Commission. The eight-volume report includes the commission’s recommendations, the July national charter, political parties’ opinions presented during the consensus-building process, summaries of discussions with parties and alliances, other documents, and findings of the public opinion survey conducted by the commission.
The information was disclosed on Tuesday, December 9, by the press wing of the chief adviser. All volumes of the report have been uploaded on the webpage address reform.gov.bd. In addition to the National Consensus Commission, reports of a total of 11 reform commissions have also been uploaded on the same website.
The current interim government, led by Dr Muhammad Yunus, formed a total of 11 reform commissions beginning in October last year. As the activities of the first six commissions neared completion, the government formed the National Consensus Commission with chief adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus as chair and chairman of the constitutional reform commission Professor Ali Riaz as co-chair.
Heads of the other five commissions were included as members of the commission. However, due to the inability of the heads of the judicial reform commission and public administration reform commission to continue, two senior members from those commissions were later added instead.
Following its official commencement on February 15 this year, the commission proceeded through a series of structured dialogues with political parties and civil society, and finalised the July national charter 2025 by July 31. Later, on October 17, the charter was formally signed with the participation of political parties. The government has already issued the July National Charter Implementation (Constitution) Order based on the commission’s recommendations.
