‘Gaaner Mela’ brings music lovers together

A promising new organisation, ‘Gaaner Mela’, has been formed with music lovers and artists at its heart.

The organisation is being led by several individuals associated with the music and cultural community, among them Kazi Ety Iqbal.

Speaking to Views Bangladesh about the organisation, Kazi Ety Iqbal said, “Gaaner Mela is not simply a music organisation; it is a collective platform for music lovers, artists and people connected with culture. Our goal is to encourage music practice, showcase new and talented artists, and build a positive and vibrant community around music, through which we hope to give music education and practice an institutional structure.”

She further said, “We want musicians and music lovers from different generations to share their thoughts, creativity and experiences on this platform. We hope that, alongside its online activities, Gaaner Mela will be involved in various music-related events and initiatives in the future. We are committed to nurturing the next generation of talented artists by establishing music schools and centres for musical practice.”

Emphasising that the love, participation and support of its members are the organisation’s greatest strengths, she said, “We believe music brings people closer, and strengthening that bond is our main objective.”

With a focus on organising musical events, facilitating discussions and creating connections between artists and music lovers, Gaaner Mela has already begun building a community of its own. The community, which has gained a positive response among music enthusiasts in a short period, also launched its Facebook presence on 16 May this year. Its Facebook group now has 748 members, with 55 new members joining in the past week.

According to information provided by the group’s administrators, members actively post and engage in discussions about songs and music every day. Encouraging participation in music, supporting artists and promoting musical and cultural activities are among the organisation’s key objectives.
