Gary Kirsten steps down as Pakistan's head coach
Gary Kirsten has stepped down as Pakistan's head coach for the ODI and T20 formats just six months after he was appointed. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hired him in April on a two-year contract.
Pakistan on Sunday announced the squads for the ODI and T20 series against Australia, which will begin next Saturday. However, just before the tour, the sudden resignation of the South African coach came as a shock to the Pakistan cricket team.
According to a report by Cricinfo, there were intense discussions within the board, which delayed the announcement of the limited-overs captain and squad. Kirsten wanted to make his views heard, but this caused a clash with red-ball coach Jason Gillespie. This disagreement is thought to be the reason for Kirsten's resignation.
