Gaza death toll reaches 63,746 amid intensified Israeli attacks
Israeli air and artillery strikes have continued to pound Gaza, killing at least 113 Palestinians and injuring more than 304 in the past 24 hours, the Gaza Health Ministry reported.
Six others, including a child, have died from famine conditions in the besieged territory.
Since the start of the conflict on October 7, 2023, Israeli attacks have killed 63,746 Palestinians and injured at least 161,245, according to ministry figures cited by Anadolu News.
Meanwhile, 367 people, including 131 children, have died of starvation amid a UN-declared full-scale famine in the enclave.
Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that 80 people were killed by Israeli shelling on Tuesday (September 2), while 33 others, including seven children, died in a drone strike at a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation relief center in al-Mawasi near Khan Yunis. Victims were reportedly waiting in line for water and aid.
Since the GHF’s establishment on May 27, at least 2,339 aid seekers have been killed and 17,070 injured.
Israeli forces have intensified efforts to take control of Gaza City since August 13, aiming to displace around one million residents and declare the city under Israeli control. Densely populated neighbourhoods, including Al-Sabra, have been heavily targeted.
Dr. Munir Alborsh, Director General of the Gaza Health Ministry, said the attacks escalated after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the campaign as entering a “decisive stage.” Early reports on Wednesday (September 3) indicate at least 44 Palestinians have been killed, including 30 in Gaza City.
Despite a temporary ceasefire on January 19, Israel resumed military operations on March 18. In this second phase, 11,615 Palestinians have been killed and 49,204 injured. Many injured remain trapped under rubble, and authorities warn that the actual casualty figures are likely higher.
