Gemini can now make calls, speak on your behalf
Booking a table at a restaurant over the phone, finding out about the stock or price of a product at a shop, or changing the time of an appointment—Google's artificial intelligence (AI) Gemini can now do these tasks on the user's behalf. Through the new 'Call for Me' feature, the AI will call businesses and find out the necessary information.
Google said Gemini will be able to navigate automated phone menus and, if necessary, speak directly with a business's staff. If there is a long wait on the phone, the user will not have to wait on hold.
How it will work?
The user will have to write '@Call for me' in the Gemini app and give the necessary instructions. Time, date, preferences or alternative information can also be mentioned there.
Before making the call, Gemini will show a summary of which number it will call and what information it will seek. The call will begin once the user gives permission after seeing it.
During the call, the user will be able to see a live transcript and hear the audio. They can cancel the call at any time and take over the conversation themselves if they wish.
However, Gemini cannot yet call emergency numbers or make payments on the user's behalf. It also cannot share sensitive information such as passwords.
Limited users for now
'Call for Me' is currently in the experimental stage. Selected users aged 18 or above in the United States are getting this facility. It has initially been launched for Pixel 11 series phone and paid Gemini AI subscription users.
Additionally, there is a daily limit on calls, and for now calls can only be made to phone numbers in the United States.
Google said real-life phone conversations depend on various situations. Therefore, the feature has been launched on a limited scale to further improve the technology.
