U.S. State Department has issued a global security alert for American citizens following a reported attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities shortly after midnight on Saturday (June 22), reports CNN.

The advisory urges Americans traveling or residing abroad to exercise heightened caution amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In a statement released Sunday, the State Department warned that the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran is significantly impacting regional stability, including temporary airspace closures and disruptions to travel across the Middle East. "There is an increased potential for anti-American protests and threats to U.S. citizens and interests globally," the statement said.

The department has advised travelers to consult country-specific guidance and the latest security updates on its official website before making any travel plans.

CNN previously reported that the strike, which targeted key Iranian nuclear infrastructure, has raised international concerns about further escalation. While no country has formally taken responsibility for the attack, officials are closely monitoring the fallout.

Domestically, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has also raised concerns, warning of an elevated threat environment. Authorities say the geopolitical tensions could lead to an uptick in low-level cyberattacks and so-called “lone wolf” actions inspired by the conflict.

"While there is no specific or credible threat at this time, we remain vigilant," a DHS spokesperson said, noting the department's continued coordination with law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
